A method of increasing the apparent capacity of a disk to store data. The trick is carried out by a special piece of software that compresses the data as it is being saved to disk and then decompresses the data when it is read back. In Windows 95 you can use the DoubleSpace software utility that will increase the apparent size of your hard disk by up to 50 per cent.
